LAKE of the OZARKS—Tickets are still available for the Genuine Country Music Association’s (GCMA) fifth annual benefit Classic Country Jamboree at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Tan-Tar-A Resort, 494 Tan-Tar-A Drive, Osage Beach.
This year’s event will raise scholarship funds for students attending State Fair Community College-Lake of the Ozarks and the Lake of the Ozarks Soccer Association, and give traditional country music lovers a chance to hear their favorite music.
The headliner is Tony Booth, a traditional country music singer/songwriter who with his band became the house band at the famous Palomino Club in California. Booth’s hits include “Keys in the Mailbox,” “Lonesome 7-7203,” “Cinderella,” and “Workin’ @ the Carwash Blues.” Booth was voted most promising male vocalist in 1972 and was nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year in 1973 by the Academy of Country Music. In 2010, he received Male Artist of the Year from the Academy of Western Artists. Booth has recorded 19 albums and charted over 20 songs.
Returning to the jamboree are Tim Atwood, a musician, singer, storyteller, and entertainer who is a 38-year veteran of the Grand Ole Opry staff band; Dennis Stroughmatt, fiddler extraordinaire, singer, recording artist, and entertainer; Scotty Henderson, a Kansas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame member who has performed for more than 30 years; Alicia Farrell Lange, a Lake of the Ozarks native who is a demo singer and back-up vocalist in Nashville; The Board of Directors Band, with Roy Dee and Jim Phinney on guitar, Jay Orr on drums and John Farrell on bass; and J.R. Love, a talented country and gospel singer from the St. Louis area.
New this year will be Jerry Frank, a Lake of the Ozarks local who “blows the cobs out of the saxophone!”
Roxane Atwood, a Nashville TV producer, announcer and voice-over artist, will emcee the event with John Farrell.
There will be a dance floor, concessions, and raffle for a new Great Bennett Design Sammick black acoustic electric guitar with built-in turner, E.Q. and volume control; estimated retail value is $250. There also will be a live auction for a “Boots ‘n’ BBQ evening with the Board of Directors Band” and a silent auction that includes tickets for Branson shows, Main Street Music Hall shows, restaurant certificates, gift and wine baskets, golf packages, American flag flown over Iraq, and hand-made wooden benches. More items are being donated; go to the Genuine Country Music Association Facebook page for updates.
Tickets are $15 for GCMA members, $20 for nonmembers and free for children under age 12. They are available at John Farrell Real Estate Company, 5750 Osage Beach Parkway, and SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks, 3797 Osage Beach Parkway, both in Osage Beach; and the SFCC Foundation, 3201 W. 16th St., Sedalia.
