The State Fair Community College nursing faculty recently selected three nursing students to receive awards because they have demonstrated compassion, commitment, sensitivity, gratitude, leadership, and professionalism in addition to their knowledge and skills.
Katie Touchstone, Whiteman Air Force Base, received the Cindy Henke Spirit of Nursing Award. Henke was the Allied Health and Physical Education program chair for 10 years and Associate Degree Nursing program coordinator for six years at SFCC. Henke inspired students to have compassion, a sense of humor, and express appreciation to their patients for contributing to their learning process.
Brianne Walker, Warrensburg, received the Leora Bremer Spirit of Nursing Award. Bremer was the Practical Nursing coordinator at SFCC for 24 years. Bremer encouraged students to be compassionate, committed, conscientious, and knowledgeable in nursing care.
Kelsey Payne, Marshall, received the Missouri League for Nursing Outstanding Graduating Student Nurse Award for demonstrating leadership, interpersonal skills and professional growth. As part of her award, Payne received a one-year free membership to the Missouri League for Nursing.
