State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce is now offering a five-week welding course from 1-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday starting Oct. 21 and concluding Nov. 21. The course will be held in SFCC’s welding shop in Fielding Technical Center on the Sedalia campus. Cost is $1,995, but tuition may be waived for eligible applicants who receive federal SNAP benefits.

People with welding skills are in high demand by many local manufacturers, and this course teaches basic welding skills necessary to attain entry-level welding positions. Students are introduced to gas metal arc welding (MIG) and safety procedures through hands-on applications. Upon successful completion of the five-week course, students are prepared to earn an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Certification and a Certificate of Completion in Introductory MIG Welding.

Course fees includes personal protective equipment such as welding jacket, helmet/face guard, gloves, and textbook, weld kit, OSHA 10, National Careers Readiness Certification and welding supplies. Students are required to wear leather shoes or boots.
