Sedalia, Missouri – State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce will offer several personal enrichment courses starting in February on the Sedalia campus. Early enrollment helps to ensure classes will be held.
Dentokan Martial Arts classes will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m. for youth (5-12 years of age) and 7-8 p.m. for adults (13 years and up) starting Feb. 3. This class improves and maintains health by regular exercise and learning new skills and techniques in Martial Arts. Classes are for all skill levels and offer an opportunity to earn stripes, rank and belt degrees. Dan Brigman, a third degree Black Belt, is the instructor.

Yoga classes will meet from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Feb. 4. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat or rug. Irene Renauld is the instructor.
Yogalates, a fusion of yoga and Pilates, will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Feb. 4. This class offers stretching and strengthening of all major muscles and calms the mind and spirit. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat. Sue Guffin is the instructor.
A 15 percent discount is applied if enrolling in three or more yoga or Yogalates sessions at the same time prior to the start of class. PrimeTime Learners, anyone over 60 years old, get 10 percent off and PrimeMulti, anyone over 60 who registers for three classes, gets 24 percent discount.
Quilter’s Choice will meet from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesdays for four sessions that start Feb. 19. This session provides participants a chance to get help with starting a quilt project of their choice or to get help with finishing a project. For the first class, bring pattern or unfinished project. Instructor Rebecca Schnakenberg will review each project and discuss next steps. For the last three sessions, sewing machines and materials will be needed.
Women’s Self Defense Training is a free four-hour seminar from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 22. Participants, ages 12 and up, will learn how to replace fear with skills, knowledge and confidence. This training covers mental comprehension as well as functional physical applications. Instructor Billy Matheny holds more than 20 law enforcement/military instructor certifications and Black Belt ranked in several martial arts. There is no cost, but advance registration is required. McCarthy Toyota of Sedalia and American Family Insurance – Ahrazue Wilt Agency are sponsoring the class.
Fluid Art 2 will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29. Using various techniques, participants will learn step-by-step how to pour, layer and integrate colors to create two 9-inch by 12-inch canvas paintings and a “family” wood cutout sign. All materials and supplies will be furnished; participants need to bring a paint shirt or apron. Paintings will need 24 hours to dry before transporting. Deadline to enroll is Feb. 21, and class size is limited.
