Marketing and Communications at State Fair Community College won a gold medallion award in the video shorts (single or series) category at the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 5 conference Oct. 7-9 in Rochester, Minnesota. Gold, silver and bronze medallions were awarded in each of 38 categories.

The department submitted to the district competition three out of a series of eight, 90-second technical program videos, one each for Precision Machining, Welding Technology and Automotive Technology. Dana Kelchner, former Marketing and Communications executive director, MarComm staff and Callis and Associates collaborated to create the promotional series.

The videos can be viewed at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhMfTKmmMLM&feature=youtu.be (precision machining), https://youtu.be/uAzxW2sYGCM (welding), and https://youtu.be/z53uw3897vY (automotive).

Judges’ comments included, “Nice use of B roll to visually show instead of using talking heads. The video was well-written and provided lots of information and impressive facts … incredible combination of voiceover, dynamic footage, testimonial from faculty and students and music bed creates a powerful video and message.”

The NCMPR medallion awards recognize outstanding achievement in design and communications at community and technical colleges. This year a record 297 entries were received from District 5 that includes members in Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, the Canadian province of Manitoba, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

NCMPR has more than 1,550 members from 650 colleges across the United States, Canada and other countries. The council provides professional development opportunities, advocates on behalf of the profession and the institutions it serves, and recognizes professional excellence.

The SFCC MarComm staff includes Brad Henderson, executive director; Cheryl Landers, design services manager; Brandi Webb, interactive communications coordinator; and Sherlyn Nail, writing services manager.
