Sedalia, Missouri – March 9, 2023 – State Fair Community College will host a Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) seminar to help adults learn how to support the young people in their lives. This seminar uses a blended format. The first two-hour, self-paced session will be delivered online. The remaining four and half hours will be held on ground 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 31, in Yeater Learning Center, Room 140, on the Sedalia campus. The seminar is free to the first 30 participants who register, and a lunch will be provided on March 31.
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches adults how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adolescents ages 12-18. Attendees will build skills and confidence in reaching out and providing initial support to young people who are struggling. Tips on how to connect adolescents to appropriate support will be presented. The seminar consists of 6.5 hours of YMHFA content. Participants who complete the online session first and then attend the on-ground session on March 31 will receive a certificate of completion.
