State Fair Community College (SFCC) on Wednesday, Jan. 22, will recognize the Agriculture industry and the college programs that support the industry at Agriculture Night at the Fred, in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the SFCC Sedalia campus during a NJCAA Region 16 basketball matchup with Moberly Area Community College.
The men’s and women’s games are at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
This event celebrates the Agriculture industry, recognizes its impact, and highlights SFCC programs that support the industry. Members of the Agriculture industry and their families will receive free tickets to the games and a concession stand voucher. During breaks during the games, SFCC will highlight the significance of the Agriculture industry, acknowledge its contributions, and recognize faculty and students in related programs.
According to the Missouri Department of Agriculture, Agriculture is a $93 billion industry in the state, employing nearly 460,000 people. The state has almost 88,000 farms, with the average farm size being 308 acres each. SFCC has degrees in Agribusiness, Agronomy, Animal Science and Horticulture. Additionally, the college is starting a new Agriculture Equipment Service program, which will anchor the new Center for Advanced Agriculture and Transportation Technology building completed this year.
“The Agriculture industry is so important to our region,” said Dr. Brent Bates, SFCC President. “The SFCC Agriculture program is one of the top programs at the college, with almost 150 majors. We are so proud to help supply a quality workforce for our Agriculture community.”
