State Fair Community College will hold a spring commencement ceremony on May 17 for students who have completed commencement requirements during the fall and spring semesters. The event will be at 7 p.m. in the Mathewson Exhibition Center at the Missouri State Fairgrounds located at 2503 W 16th St.
The SFCC 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient and Commencement Speaker will be Steve Galloway. A product of a family deeply involved in agricultural organizations, Galloway embarked on his education journey from a one-room country school. After graduating with the class of 1970 at “Plywood U,” and earning his Associate of Arts degree, Galloway served in the United States Army as an infantryman stationed in Berlin, Germany, and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1972. Afterward, Galloway pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education and a Master of Science in Agriculture Technology.
A dedicated educator, he spent 38 years at State Fair Community College, earning accolades like the Teacher of the Year Award and the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2009. Beyond teaching, he served his community extensively, contributing to organizations like 4-H and local school boards. Steve and his wife Rena are proud grandparents and great-grandparents known for their commitment to family.
This semester, approximately 461 graduates will receive 555 degrees and/or certificates. Breakdown of degrees (as of May 16) include 246 Associate of Arts degrees, 8 Associate of Fine Arts, 12 Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees, 161 Associate of Applied Science degrees, 9 Associate of Science degrees, 69 Professional Certificates, and 49 Skills Certificates.
The numbers include students who attend SFCC in Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Whiteman Air Force Base, and online.
SFCC’s Adult Education and Literacy program will celebrate individuals who passed the 2024 High School Equivalency exam with a ceremony at 10 a.m. May 18 in Stauffacher Theatre on the SFCC Sedalia campus.
