State Fair Community College (SFCC) will host its fall commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus. The event will include a pinning ceremony for Health Sciences graduates from numerous programs. Extended SFCC campuses will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 13 to allow students, faculty, and staff to attend the ceremony in Sedalia. 

Keynote speaker, Donald E. Luper Jr.

Donald E. Luper Jr., a distinguished educator, artist, and sculptor, will deliver the keynote address. Luper has been a dedicated member of the SFCC faculty for over three decades, serving as a full-time art instructor for 24 years and an adjunct instructor for eight years, guiding countless students to embark on their artistic journeys. A lifelong Missourian, Luper earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute and a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics at the University of Missouri. Luper’s art is featured in multiple public and private collections. Luper resides in Sedalia with his wife, Tina, whom he married in 1988 and with whom he has raised two children, Dalton and Jordan. 

Approximately 264 students will graduate this semester, earning a total of 310 degrees and certificates. The breakdown includes 115 Associate of Arts degrees, 15 Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees, 2 Associate of Fine Arts degrees, 3 Associate of General Studies Degrees, 1 Associate of Science degree, 76 Associate of Applied Science degrees, 72 Professional Certificates, and 27 Skills Certificates. Among the Health Sciences graduates, 16 degrees and certificates will be awarded in programs such as Nursing (35 Associate of Applied Science degrees), Practical Nursing (36 professional certificates), Medical Assisting (1 Associate of Applied Science degree, 20 professional certificates, 17 skills certificates), Health Information Technology (3 Associate of Applied Science degrees), Medical Coding (2 Professional certificates), and Medical Laboratory Technician (1 Associate of Applied Science degree). The graduates represent SFCC’s main campus and its locations in Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Whiteman Air Force Base, Jefferson City, and online programs. 

The SFCC’s Adult Education and Literacy program will honor individuals who passed the 2024 High School Equivalency exam during a special ceremony at 10 a.m. on Dec. 14 in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.
