April 11, 2019

Sedalia, MissouriMarch 28, 2019 – State Fair Community College’s student art exhibition will open April 11 in the Goddard Gallery of the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the Sedalia campus. Admission is free.

A public reception and awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The show will continue through May 12.

The annual student exhibition is open to all students taking studio art classes at the college. Each year about 50 students exhibit close to 100 artworks in a variety of media.

Although every student is guaranteed a spot in the show, an invited juror will designate works of high merit for public recognition. Matt Rahner, exhibition coordinator and registrar at Daum Museum of Contemporary Art, is this year’s juror.

Some students offer their artwork for sale. SFCC President Dr. Joanna Anderson will purchase an artwork for the college’s student art collection that will be displayed on one of the college’s campuses.

SFCC offers an Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree in Art that lays a foundation for upper-level class work and establishes a smooth transfer for SFCC graduates who may seek a bachelor’s degree in studio art at a four-year college or university. Courses include drawing, design, painting, ceramics, fiber, watercolor, sculpture, and art history.

Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays. Admission is free. For more information, call (660) 530-5888 or visit the website at www.daummuseum.org.
