Sedalia, Missouri  Nov. 10, 2022  The State Fair Community College Music Arts program will present its winter band and vocal concert at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at First United Methodist Church, 916 Thompson Blvd. in Sedalia. Admission is free; however, donations of snack foods such as granola bars, crackers, dried fruit, nuts, Little Debbie snacks, etc. will be accepted at the door and contributed to SFCC’s College Campus Connection C3 Club for students.   

The SFCC Concert Band directed by instructor Joe Schreimann will open the evening’s performance with “Them Basses,” a march that features crisp, clean notes from the brass section that was written by American composer, trombonist and tuba player Getty H. Huffine.  Two holiday favorites, “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)” arranged by Mike Sweeney and “Christmas Time with Charlie Brown” arranged by John Moss will be performed. The band also will present “The Renaissance Revel,” arranged by Kenneth Singleton, that features four short movements with a unique medieval festive-feel. 

SFCC Music Arts program coordinator and instructor Dr. Christopher Kindle will direct the Chamber Choir that will be accompanied by Gwen Kappelman. The choir will perform “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” arranged by Marianne Forman, which will feature violinist Barbara Schrader. Craig Courtney’s arrangement of singer, songwriter Amy Grant’s “Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song)” will be presented. The Christmas carol “What Child is This,” which originated in England, arranged by Melodie Tunney, will be sung and will feature a duet by Smith-Cotton Junior High School students Ty Barth-Fagan and Nathan Dake. The choir also will perform John Purifoy’s “Et in Tera Pax (And on Earth, Peace)” that exemplifies the angels’ proclamation and prayer for peace based on Luke 2:13-14.  

To close the concert, the band and choir will combine to perform “A Festive Christmas Celebration” arranged by Audrey Snyder and John Moss. This piece features four Christmas favorites that concludes with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
