Sedalia, Missouri – Sept. 30, 2021 – The State Fair Community College Music Arts program will present its fall instrumental and vocal concerts on separate nights. The Concert Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12. The Chamber and Jazz Choirs will perform at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14. Both events will take place in Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus. Admission is free on a first come, first served basis this season. At this time, face coverings are required. SFCC instructor Andrew Fischer will direct the Concert Band on Oct. 12. The performance features five songs: “Declaration Overture” by Claude T. Smith; “Rain” by Brian Ballmages; “Flourish for Wind Band” by Ralph Vaughn Williams; “Balladair” by Frank Ericson; and “Dawn of a New Day” by James Swearingen.
SFCC Music Arts program coordinator and instructor Dr. Christopher Kindle will direct the Chamber and Jazz choirs on Oct. 14. Gwen Kappelman is the accompanist, and Russ Schupp is the percussionist. The Chamber and Jazz Choirs will perform songs that offer a variety of music from smooth and upbeat jazz tunes such as “My Heart Stood Still” and “Rewrite the Stars” to formal, classical compositions such as “At the Round Earth’s Imagined Corners” and “Ave Verum Corpus.”
Students who participate in music arts at SFCC represent a wide range of majors from agriculture and health sciences to criminal justice and liberal arts. They come from many different communities and affirm the contributions music brings to a college education. Learning to read music, studying its history and mastering the mechanics of performance are experiences that can grow success in all career paths.
