Sedalia, Missouri – Feb. 3, 2023 – State Fair Community College’s Homecoming Committee is incorporating two service events into its ‘Paint the Town Blue’ 2023 Homecoming celebration the week of Feb. 21-25.
To help maintain a strong blood supply, SFCC will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 22 in Thompson Conference Center in the Heckart Center on the Sedalia campus. Community donors will receive free admission to the Roadrunners homecoming basketball games that begin at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. The committee is encouraging SFCC students and employees to donate blood from 9-11 a.m. and community members to donate from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. To make an appointment or to learn more, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Completion of a RapidPass® online health history questionnaire found at RedCrossBlood.org/rapidpass or on the Blood Donor App will help speed up the donation process. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent as allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also must meet certain height and weight requirements.
The other service event will benefit Open Door Food Pantry in Sedalia. Each month thousands of families rely on Open Door, which provides food boxes in its pantry, hot nutritious meals at its soup kitchen and emergency support services.
The Homecoming Committee will collect food donations Feb. 21-25 in various locations at the college. People who attend the Roadrunners homecoming basketball games on Feb. 25 in the Davis Center will receive free admission for every two nonperishable food items donated.
Members of the 2023 Homecoming Committee include Student Government Association officers President Hailey Zeger of Camdenton, Vice President Cameron Belmore Carrollton, Secretary Josh Kofahl of Jefferson City, and Advisor and Student Engagement Coordinator Hannah Hartung.
“The homecoming committee strives to make positive enhancements each year,” said Hartung. “This year the committee wanted to incorporate a wide variety of events to engage students, employees and the community in spreading the infectious Roadrunner spirit, and we hope everyone will join us in ‘painting the town blue’ for homecoming
