Sangria SunsetLive bands, karaoke and a live auction will highlight the State Fair Community College Foundation’s annual fundraiser March 10 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.

The event is open to the public and will begin at 6 p.m. It will feature cocktails and appetizers, dinner and a dessert dash, a live auction, and live bands and karaoke. Dr. Joe Gilgour, dean of Student and Academic Support Services, will be master of ceremonies.

“We are excited to offer another social event that features good food and fun and supports the college’s mission to grow and empower our students and communities,” said Dr. Joanna Anderson, SFCC president. “I’m looking forward to spending time with valued friends and partners and continuing the conversation about the importance and value of our technical programs to the region.”

A new feature this year is two live bands for entertainment and dancing. One Track Train will start the evening. The six-member band, based in central Missouri, plays American roots music including bluegrass, blues, country, folk, and gospel. The Young Guns, a modern country cover band from Chicago, performs and offers live band karaoke.

The live auction features custom items made by students and faculty in SFCC’s technical education programs, among other items. Welding students are making benches, tables and a uniquely designed fire pit. Career and Technology Center students have built a 10 ft. by 14 ft. wooden framed, metal-sided storage shed for auction.

The Automotive program will offer a car care package, and the Machining program is working on a decorative item as well. As more information becomes available, it will be posted at sfccmo.edu/sangria-sunset. Garber Auctioneer will conduct the auction.

“The planning committee had fun organizing this year’s event,” said Mary Treuner, executive director of the SFCC Foundation. “Last year’s guests enjoyed listening to the music and dancing, so we decided to bring live bands to the event this year. It will be a relaxing evening and an opportunity to shine a light on our students and technical programs that are important to our communities’ economic vitality.”

Sangria Sunset tickets are $100 per person. Individuals, groups or businesses also may reserve tables of 10 for $1,000.

Casual attire is suggested. Parking is available in front of the Davis Multipurpose Center.
