Smithton High School student Riley Bryan (right) has been awarded a $500 State Fair Community College Lisa Shoemaker Writing Scholarship. Bryan is an SFCC dual-credit, English Composition student; Elizabeth Carver (right) is Bryan’s high school instructor. Bryan’s composition titled, “How Did I Become Who I Am,” was selected as the winner out of students’ papers submitted by all writing instructors for fall and spring semesters. The scholarship is named in honor of Lisa Shoemaker, former English instructor and literature coordinator who retired in 2015 after teaching almost 36 years at SFCC.
