The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art at State Fair Community College will present special evening events and extended museum hours on four Thursdays in May through August. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 23, June 27, July 25, and Aug. 22. Events will begin at 6 p.m. and are free to the public.
The final Summer Nights event on Aug. 22 features Spofest, a community of area poets, writers and musicians who will share their talents in recitations and song. Among the readers will be the current Missouri Poet Laureate Aliki Barnstone. Besides being a writer, she is a translator, critic, editor, and visual artist. She is the author of eight books of poetry; the most recent is titled “Dwelling.” Her first book of poems, “The Real Tin Flower,” was published when she was 12 years old; she is Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of Missouri (source:alikibarnstone.com/bio).
