Voters will have the opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for the State Fair Community College Board of Trustees at a forum hosted by the SFCC Faculty Association scheduled at 6:30 p.m. March 27 in the Thompson Conference Center inside the Heckart Science and Allied Health Center on the Sedalia campus. The forum is open to the public.
Four candidates are vying for two open seats. Board Vice President Patty Wood and Trustee Judy Parkhurst’s terms will expire. Parkhurst did not file for re-election. Wood is seeking another term. She will face Jim Page, Diana Sadler Martin and Cynthia Ann Gray in the April 3 election.
The association will collect questions in advance of the event. Those who attend may submit questions in writing the night of the forum. Each candidate will give opening remarks before responding to questions.
SFCC History instructor Michael Davis, a member of the Faculty Association executive board, will serve as moderator.
Voters in the college’s taxing district, which is comprised of Pettis and Benton counties, the Cooper County R-VI Otterville school district and small portions of Henry, Morgan, Johnson, and Saline counties, elect the trustees to serve on SFCC’s governing board. Trustees serve six-year terms and oversee the college’s annual budget of approximately $29 million in addition to making operational and strategic planning decisions for the college. SFCC serves 14 counties including Benton, Camden, Carroll, Cole, Cooper, Henry, Hickory, Johnson, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, Pettis, Saline, and St. Clair.
