Sedalia, Missouri – April 15, 2024 – The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the State Fair Community College Sedalia campus invites all visitors to experience its current line-up of exhibitions, including the “2024 Annual Student Exhibition,” which opened on April 11 and will run through May 12. The exhibition is a tradition dating back to the late 1960s and is open to all SFCC students currently taking studio art classes. Interested student artists collaborate with art department faculty to select work that best represents them. About 50 students exhibit artworks in various media each year. This year’s exhibition features traditional media as well as new media.
Artist Casey Whittier’s “Observations” exhibit will be available until August 4. Whittier recreates elements from nature and draws on her background in ceramics and interest in the intersections of visual art and philosophy, specifically the interconnectedness of the natural world and the human psyche. Whittier, a social practice instructor at the Kansas City Art Institute, displays repetitive processes and symbolic imagery in her exhibition. Whittier received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and MFA from the University of Colorado and currently serves as president for Artaxis, a non-profit art organization made up of contemporary artists that serves as a resource, network, and support for its community of artists. More of Whittier’s work can be found at www.caseywhittier.com.
“All We Are” will run until August 4, focusing on portraits and figurative works from the Daum collection. The exhibition explores human experiences, diverse perspectives, and the complexities of identity, inviting viewers to contemplate the notion of humanity.
The Daum Museum’s hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free. For more information, call (660) 530-5888 or visit www.daummuseum.org.
