How do I apply for education benefits?
If this is the first time using Chapter 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606 and 1607, complete the online application on https://www.va.gov/education/how-to-apply/. Once you are notified of your eligibility stating your entitlement and type of benefit you will receive, provide a copy of the letter of eligibility or a screen shot of your education benefits listed on your vets.gov, account along with your Member 4 Form DD214 to the Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Service at 3201 West 16th, Sedalia, MO 65301; by fax at (660) 530-5820; or email at veterans@sfccmo.edu.
If you are using Tuition Assistance, please contact your Educational Service Officer or counselor within your unit, prior to enrolling in your class, as each service has its own criteria for eligibility.

What happens if I change my degree program?
It is important that you notify the Department of Veteran Affairs of any changes you make to your education plan. If you decide to change your degree program and you are using Chapter 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606 or 1607 VA education benefits, complete and submit the Change my program/catalog year form on your mySFCC Academics page.
You will also need to complete the VA Request for Change of Program or Place of Training form (22-1995) or 22-5495 and provide a copy or written notification to the Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Services at 3201 West 16th, Sedalia, MO 65301 or fax at (660) 530-5820 or email to veterans@sfccmo.edu.

What happens if I drop or add a class?
It is important to know the affect it will make if you decide to drop a class. Dropping a class may cause some or all of your benefits to be reduced. In some cases, you may have to pay back SFCC or the VA for the benefit you received.

What is considered full-time in the fall, spring and summer semesters?
Full-time is 12 hours the entire 16 weeks of the fall and spring semesters. Interim courses are considered part of the semester they precede. Full-time in the summer semester is six hours the entire eight weeks.

How much BAH will I receive at SFCC (Chapter 33 only)?
You can find out how much BAH you will receive by visiting www.vets.gov/gi-bill-comparison-tool.

How many hours must I be enrolled in each semester to receive the Basic Allowances for Housing (BAH) (Chapter 33 only)?
You must be enrolled in greater than half-time each term (seven to 11 credits hours for fall and spring) to receive 50 percent of your BAH. You must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours to receive 100 percent of your BAH.

Will I still receive BAH if I enroll in all online courses (Chapter 33 only)?
Yes. If you enroll in all online courses, you are still eligible for BAH as long as your rate of pursuit is greater than half-time (seven or more hours for fall and spring).
However, if you enroll in online skills courses (anything under the 100 level) they will not count as credit hours toward your housing and education benefits.

How much does my education benefit cover?
To find out what how much your benefits will cover and when you may become eligible, go to the www.gibill.va.gov or contact your VA representative at 1-888-442-4551. For Tuition Assistance contact your Educational Services Officer or counselor within your unit.

When will I receive my education benefits?
For Chapter 30, 33, 35, 1606 and 1607, the amount of benefit you receive is based the type of benefit you are receiving as well as the number of credit hours you enroll in each semester. Enrolling in classes with various beginning and ending dates such as Interim classes, first eight week and second eight week classes may also affect your monthly benefit and when you will receive them.
For example: if you are enrolled in 6 credits the first eight weeks and 6 credit hours the second eight weeks. You are considered a full time student, however, you will not receive your housing allowance until you start your second eight week classes.
If you are using Tuition Assistance your tuition will be paid directly to SFCC.

How do I receive my monthly benefits?
If you are using Chapter 30, 1606 or 1607, you will need to verify your attendance to the VA monthly. By the last day of every month, you must notify the VA of your attendance by visiting Web Automated Verification of Enrollment website at www.gibill.va.gov/wave/index.do or calling 1-877-823-2378.

How do I transfer my VA Education Benefits from another institution?
If you are currently using your VA Education Benefits at another institution, fill out a 22-1995 (22-5490 for dependents), DD-214 and Certificate of Eligibility form and submit them to Financial Aid and Veteran Service at 3201 West 16th St., Sedalia, MO 65301; fax to (660) 530-5820; or email to veterans@sfccmo.edu.

What about Missouri education benefits?
The Missouri Returning Heroes Education Act requires Missouri public postsecondary institutions to limit eligible combat veterans’ tuition to $50 per credit hour.
Eligibility
- U.S. veteran status
- Active service in an armed combat zone, as designated by the U.S. Department of Defense, for more than 30 days since Sept. 11, 2001
- Missouri resident at time of entrance into the military
- Honorable discharge from military service (shown on most current DD-214 form)
- Enrollment in an associate degree program
Maximum Award Amount
- The award amount is based on current enrollment and other financial assistance.
- After subtracting all other aid designated for tuition and fees, such as grants and scholarships, any remaining tuition and fees exceeding $50 per credit hour will be waived.
Renewal
- Must maintain minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average each semester

- You may request your transcript for Army, Marine, Navy, & Coast Guard at Joint Services Transcript.
- You may request your Air Force transcript at CCAF.
