We’ll teach you the skills to succeed in the diverse Horticulture industry. A combination of classroom hours and occupational internships will prepare you to enter the job market in landscaping, greenhouse, lawn service, and other fields.
Is This Program Right for Me?
Our Horticulture program will prepare you for landscaping, groundskeeping, nursery, greenhouse, and lawn service careers.
To succeed in this field you need problem-solving skills; written and verbal communication skills; the ability to make decisions and coordinate work activities of others; self-motivation; and the ability to perform physical tasks like lifting, balancing, climbing, and stooping.
Classes meet in the Potter-Ewing Agriculture Building, which includes greenhouses, a lab and classrooms. Adjacent land is used for test plots and community gardens.
All Horticulture students are members of the Horticulture Club, which sponsors plant sales in the greenhouse several times a year. Horticulture students also can join the Ag Club, which promotes leadership, educational advancement and group participation at the local, state and national levels. You also can participate in the Professional Agriculture Student Organization at state and national levels.
Occupational Outlook
An AAS degree in Agriculture with Emphasis in Horticulture provides the skills you need to work as a greenhouse employee or manager, nursery manager, landscape designer or technician, groundskeeper or maintenance worker, fruit and vegetable producer, or pest control manager. Salaries range from $22,900 to $43,900.
