Sedalia, Missouri – March 4, 2024 – State Fair Community College is proud to announce its annual National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award Recipients for 2024. The 2024 honorees include Bethany Pfeiffer, Director of the Boonville Campus and Shannon Kammerlohr, Adjunct Instructor for English.
NISOD’s Excellence Awards recognize men and women each year who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution to their students and colleagues. In 1989, in connection with the University of Texas at Austin’s national study of teaching excellence, NISOD hosted its first ceremony honoring NISOD Excellence Award recipients. The response to that ceremony was so positive that NISOD began what has become the largest and most inspiring gathering that recognizes the contributions and achievements of community and technical college faculty, administrators, and staff.
“I’m so appreciative of this recognition from SFCC, and happily share this award with a great team of supportive colleagues,” said Pfeiffer. “We all strive to do what’s best for our students and community each day and I couldn’t ask for more!”
While Shannon Kammerlohr stated, “I can’t tell you how much it means to me to have been chosen as the Adjunct of the Year by the students…what an incredibly humbling honor! I like to think that one of my greatest accomplishments as an instructor has been creating an environment that has become a significant key to unlocking critical thought.”
SFCC President Brent Bates noted, “We are so proud of both Ms. Pfeiffer and Mr. Kammerlohr for earning the NISOD Excellence Award. Ms. Pfeiffer is an incredible young professional at SFCC. As director of SFCC-Boonville, she is community minded, and student centered. As a colleague, Ms. Pfeiffer always works to be a part of the solution.” He also said, “Mr. Kammerlohr was nominated and selected by students for SFCC’s Adjunct Instructor of the Year award for his outstanding teaching. Recognition by students is a tremendous honor and highlights his qualification for this NISOD Excellence Awards.”
Excellence Award recipients will be recognized during NISOD’s annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence on May 25-28. Excellence Award recipients receive a specially cast pewter medallion on a burnt-orange ribbon. The names, titles, and colleges of all Excellence Award recipients are included in a special booklet featuring congratulatory ads from many recipients’ colleges. In addition, presentations at the conference involving Excellence Award recipients are indicated in the Conference Program with a special icon.
“Recognizing those individuals who have contributed to student success and their colleges’ mission is something we look forward to doing each year,” said Dr. Edward J. Leach, NISOD’s executive director. “The extraordinary work of these men and women includes not only what they do for their students and colleagues, but what they do for the communities in which they live and work. We’re honored to be able to play a part in celebrating their achievements.”
