The State Fair Community College Apprenticeship Program recently presented Garrett Amos of Lincoln, the United States Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship, Journeyman Certificate in Industrial Electrical Maintenance. The certificate presentation occurred
at Maxion Wheels, in Sedalia. Among those present was Maxion Wheels Maintenance Manager, Ricardo Martinati and SFCC Apprenticeship Program Director Lori Blalock. An apprentice in Industrial Electrical Maintenance must complete up to two years of classroom work and 4,000 hours of on-the-job training to achieve journeyman status.
Lori Blalock, reflecting on Garrett’s achievement, stated, “We are very proud of Garrett for earning his certificate of completion. At SFCC, our mission is to ensure our students are workforce-ready. Garrett’s success exemplifies the caliber of professionals our apprenticeship programs produce.”
Apprenticeship programs are for people of all ages who want to earn a salary while they learn and gain direct job skills. These programs offer employers the ability to strengthen and build their workforce and provide a tailored, high-quality talent pipeline.
SFCC currently offers the following registered apprenticeship programs: Industrial Electrical Maintenance, Precision Machining, Welding, Engineering Design Technology, Construction Management, Robotics and Automation Tech, Millwright, Commercial Driver’s License, First-Line Supervisor, and Digital Media Marketing.
Anyone with experience in these technical careers and is interested in teaching full- or part-time at SFCC is encouraged to apply at SFCC at www.sfccmo.edu/jobs. No previous teaching experience is required. SFCC will work with eligible candidates who want to learn how to pass along their skills, knowledge and work experiences to students who are pursuing certificates or degrees in technical careers.
