Sedalia, Missouri – April 1, 2022 – State Fair Community College is partnering with Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs (NBT) to host its first summer manufacturing camp June 13-17 in the new Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center on the Sedalia campus. SFCC’s camp, Advanced Manufacturing Projects (AMP) Camp–Inspiring the Next Generation of Makers & Innovators, is open to students 12 to 16 years of age. The five-day camp will start at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.
NBT is a charitable foundation of the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association International. Its purpose is to support individuals in discovering their interest in high-tech manufacturing and to encourage the pursuit of a manufacturing career. NBT camps take place in community colleges and technical high schools across the United States. Currently, 177 camps are scheduled for this year.
The AMP Camp will provide participants hands-on and engaging learning experiences and includes activities such as touring manufacturing facilities, manufacturing a product from beginning to finish, learning about entrepreneurship, and talking with industry experts. On the last day of the camp, students will have a competition with their finished products. Camp sponsors are Gardner Denver, Nucor Steel, Stanley Black & Decker, Tyson Foods, and Maxion Wheels.
Hosting the first SFCC AMP Camp in the new Olen Howard Workforce Innovation Center, scheduled to open in the next few months, will highlight the college’s technical programs and its commitment to growing and strengthening the workforce in Midwest Missouri. SFCC’s Rochelle Hocket, technical education liaison, and Amanda Stoecklein, technical programs division chair, have been involved in coordinating the camp.
“Manufacturing has made a comeback in the U.S. and now with more advanced technology, robotics and streamlined manufacturing processes, the demand is greater than ever for a new generation of workers with high-tech skills,” said Hockett.
“There are so many great jobs available right here in our area,” said Stoecklein. “SFCC is excited to launch this camp and expose students to these high-tech, modern manufacturing technologies at an early age.”
To register, go to https://conta.cc/3AxZsIx. May 13 is last day to register. Cost is $69 per student. Each student will receive a customized camp T-shirt, and lunch will be included.
