Sedalia, Missouri – May 21, 2021 – The annual State Fair Community College Student Art Show, a tradition dating back to the late 1960s, was held this year from April 16 to May 9 in the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art on the Sedalia campus. The show was open to all students who had taken studio art classes at SFCC. Interested student-artists collaborated with Art program faculty to select work that best represented them.

This year, the show included a selection of artwork made last year during the pandemic when campus was closed, and the student exhibition was not held. The 2021 show featured 39 artworks by 29 artists in a wide range of media, from paintings, drawings and ceramics to cast aluminum sculpture and mixed-media sculpture and glass to graphic-design entries.

A panel of art faculty designated entries of special merit, including two cash awards and three honorable mentions. The Sedalia Visual Art Association gave two cash awards, and State Fair Community College President Dr. Joanna Anderson decided on two purchase awards. A ceremony announcing recipients and presenting awards was held April 30 in the Daum Museum.

This year’s winners were as follows:

Award Winners ($300 cash award): Makenna Uptegrove of Stover, Melanie Mullins of Gravois Mills

Honorable Mentions ($50 cash award): Ryan Eggers of Windsor, Sydney Harmon of Sullivan, Brandi White of Centerview

President’s Awards (purchase awards): Kendal Johnson of Clinton, for Elliptical Mirror, 2021; plywood and plastic; Janette Figueroa of Florence, for Fanta-sea, 2021; acrylic and foil flakes on canvas
