Sedalia, Missouri – The State Fair Community College Theatre Arts program will present the dark comedy “Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play,” Oct. 2-6 in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.
After an epidemic has reduced the population and nuclear plant meltdowns have brought down the electric grid, a group of survivors gathered around a fire begins to recount an episode of “The Simpsons.” Over the course of the play’s three acts and three-quarters of a century timespan, the casual story telling that began around that campfire evolves into theatre, theater into ritual, and one “Simpsons” episode evolves into a myth and legend for a post-apocalyptic world.
“Mr. Burns,” written by Anne Washburn, debuted in May 2012 and was nominated for the 2014 Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway play.
Regular performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2-5; admission on Oct. 2 is a donation and is $8 for all other performances. Tickets are $18 for the Oct. 5 dinner theatre in the Stauffacher lobby; dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. The dinner theatre menu is available by calling the Box Office at (660) 530-5814 from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. A matinée will be presented at 2 p.m.Oct. 6. Anyone 60 or older may reserve free tickets for the matinée.
