State Fair Community College is pleased to announce that Jill Semau is the new Medical Assistant program coordinator at the Clinton campus. Semau joined SFCC in August and brings years of experience as a Credentialed (Certified) Medical Assistant and a Certified Professional Coder.
She has worked as a medical assistant at Tanner Clinic in Layton, Utah, and as a medical assistant instructor at Ogden-Weber Technical College in Ogden, Utah. Semau spent 20 years as a missionary for Youth With A Mission/ University of the Nations in countries such as Kenya, Bulgaria, Brazil, Thailand, Irian Jaya, and the South Pacific. She served medically as well as an educator.
Semau moved to Missouri almost six years ago and worked five years at Lake Regional Health Systems as a medical assistant, an electronic medical records and clinical program coordinator and physician liaison. She is married and has two sons.
As SFCC’s Medical Assistant program coordinator and instructor, Semau looks forward to growing the program and seeing trained medical assistants employed in Clinton and surrounding communities.
“Many people may not know what a medical assistant is and the important role that person plays on their healthcare team,” said Semau. “They don’t realize the person at the doctor’s office taking blood pressure, giving injections, drawing blood and answering questions is often a medical assistant.”
The next Medical Assistant class begins Aug. 19, and Semau plans to have at least 20 students enrolled in that class.
SFCC’s Medical Assistant program offers a Professional Certificate (34.5 credit hours) and an Associate of Applied Science degree (61.5 credit hours). Classes are conducted online with an afternoon on-site class to learn clinical skills.
In addition to applying for admission to SFCC, prospective students must complete a medical assistant application for acceptance into the program. The application and more information is available at www.sfccmo.edu/medical-assisting. Deadline to apply is May 15, 2019.
