Voices and Friends: Music Arts

October 27, 2018, 7:00 pm-8:30 pm

College choir directors and colleagues Ron Sayer from State Fair Community College and Jerry Myers from St. Louis Community College-Meramec understand and have witnessed how music opens doors to students from all walks of life and strengthens the quality of their lives forever. Consequently, the two directors decided to bring their robust vocal music programs together so their students can share the positive impact and joy of choral music and the challenge of meeting high expectations. The concerts are titled “Voices and Friends: a Collaborative Concert.”

The SFCC Chamber Choir will travel to St. Louis on Oct. 26 to rehearse and perform with the STLCC Meramec Chamber Singers on their campus at 7 p.m.  The following night, Oct. 27, the concert will be repeated when the STLCC choir travels to Sedalia for a 7 p.m. concert in the Stauffacher Theatre. This non-ticketed event is first come, first served, and the doors of Stauffacher Theatre will open at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

Selections performed cover the expanse of choral music from the Baroque era to the 20th century. Among those selections are the Kyrie from the Missa Brevis by Antonio Lotti, a beautiful setting of the early 20th century poet Alfred Noyes’ Let My Love Be Heard and the American spiritual Cornerstone.

“Collaboration enhances and strengthens students’ learning and performing as well as enriches the cultural vitality of the communities we serve,” said Sayer, SFCC’s Music Arts program coordinator. “I am pleased we can highlight our colleges’ quality programs and talented students and share it with our audiences.”
