SEDALIA—State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce will offer the following continuing education classes in April.
- Motorcycle Basic Rider Course will meet April 13-15 and April 27-30 on the Sedalia campus. The class meets from 6-10 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The course is geared toward beginning or re-entry riders and has a list of requirements. Cost is $199; instructor is Chuck Buck, certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the Missouri Motorcycle Safety Program.
- Ladies Conceal and Carry Hand Gun Fundamentals, an eight-hour comprehensive training, practice and application, will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 14 at Black Dawn Industries LLC, 1511 North Ohio Avenue. Participants will learn about the design, construction and uses of a handgun. Topics include safety, operations, mental preparation, firearm laws, loading and unloading, and storage. The class includes live fire personalized practice to develop and improve skills and abilities. Upon successful completion, participants will have met the classroom requirement for a CCW application. Missouri residents must be at least 19 years old to apply for a concealed weapon endorsement. Students must provide their own handgun (revolver or semi-auto), 100 rounds of ammunition and eye and hearing protection. Handguns will be available for rent and ammunition available for purchase. Class size is limited to 18 students. Cost is $99; qualified instructors and range facilities provided by Black Dawn Industries.
- Kumihimo Braiding class will meet from 6-9 p.m. April 18 in Fielding Technical Center, Room 253. Kumihimo is the Japanese technique of braiding silk strands to create intricate cords that are strong but slender. Students will learn techniques for making bracelets and necklaces. Participants should bring scissors to class and will receive several patterns and a simple Kumihimo loom. Cost is $39 per person; DeAnna Amos is the instructor.
- Succulent Salvation, a new class, will meet from 6-8 p.m. April 19 in Potter-Ewing Ag Building, Room 400. Participants in this DIY class will learn how to repurpose small to medium sized containers into plant displays using succulents grown in SFCC’s greenhouse. Participants need to bring containers such as metal tack, tool or lunch boxes; worn out boots or shoes; enamelware; old lanterns; birdcages, pots or plans; wooden boxes; toy-size metal cars or trucks. Cost is $49 per person and includes soil, nutrients and three to five succulent plants. Additional plants may be purchased at the class. SFCC Horticulture instructors will guide the class.
