State Fair Community College’s The LearningForce will offer more professional and enrichment courses that start between Oct. 2 and Oct. 26.

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A Truck Driving Academy is a four-week Commercial Driving Academyprogram designed to train new truck drivers how to drive, the rules and regulations of the road and how to keep driving logs. It includes about 40 hours of classroom time and 160 hours of driving time. Students must have a CDL permit and pass drug and health screenings before starting. Programs begin monthly; the next one begins Oct. 2 in Fielding Technical Center, Room 245. Upon completion, students will be prepared to earn a Class A CDL.   • PIYO, a combination of Pilates, yoga and nonstop movement, will be held from 4-5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays starting Oct. 2 for four weeks in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. This low-impact, music-driven, body-sculpting workout strengthens muscles, increases flexibility and improves balance and mobility. Cost is $39; instructor is Kim Windle.
  • Yoga classes will meet from 4-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks beginning Oct. 3 in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat or rug. Cost is $39 for eight sessions; instructor is Irene Renauld.
  • Yogalates, a fusion of yoga and Pilates, will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for four weeks beginning Oct. 3 in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. It offers stretching and strengthening of all major muscles and can calm the mind and spirit. Students should wear comfortable clothes and bring a mat. Cost is $39 for eight sessions; instructor is Sue Guffin.

A 15 percent discount is applied if enrolling in three or more yoga, Yogalates or PIYO sessions at the same time prior to the start of class.

  • AR Basic 101 is a new firearm class that will meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Black Dawn Industries LLC, 1511 North Ohio, Sedalia. This course covers the anatomy of the ArmaLite style rifle, basic maintenance, shooting positions, clearing malfunctions, zeroing the rifle and more. Supplies required are 1X AR style working rifle (iron sights, red dots and 1X scopes allowed) minimum of two mags, 150 rounds of ammo, and note-taking materials. Class size is limited to 15. Cost is $89; qualified instructors and shooting range facilities are provided by Black Dawn Industries.
  • Cricut with Me (Intermediate) is a fun, interactive class that uses Cricut Explore, aCricut with Me smart cutting machine and various apps. It will meet from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays for three weeks starting Oct. 10 in Fielding Center, Room 229. This course focuses on cutting adhesive vinyl materials; students will finish a project in each class. A Cricut Explore machine will be available to share if participants do not have their own machine. Besides an Explore machine, bring adhesive vinyl, scissors, Cricut mat, and tools. Computers will be available for use. An advanced course will start Nov. 7. Cost is $39; instructor is Janell Allred.
  • Fusion Quilt class will meet from 6-9 p.m. on Oct. 11 and Nov. 1, 8, and 15 in Davis Multipurpose Center, Room 119. Fusion is a modern version of an old technique called bargello quilting. Strips of cascading color are used to make this simple technique look difficult. Only two colors with 11 different values, ranging from very light to very dark, are used. This class is for confident beginners and experienced quilters. The first meeting will be 90 minutes and will cover the supply list and fabrics required for the project, so note-taking materials are needed; homework will be required. The remaining three sessions will last three hours each, using a sewing machine and hand stitching. Do not purchase fabric or supplies until after the first class. Cost is $69; the instructor is Rebecca Schnakenberg.
  • Kumihimo Braiding class will meet from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 11 in Fielding Technical Center, Room 253. Kumihimo is the Japanese technique of braiding silk and other fine fabric to create strong, beautiful cords. Students will learn techniques for making fine jewelry and lanyards and will leave with several patterns and a simple Kumihimo loom. Bring scissors to class. Cost is $39; instructor is DeAnna Amos of Misty Woods Products.
  • Motorcycle Basic Rider Course will meet Oct. 13-15 on the Sedalia campus. The class meets from 6-10 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The course is geared for beginning or re-entry riders and has a list of requirements. Cost is $199; instructor is Chuck Buck, certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the Missouri Motorcycle Safety Program. The next rider course will be Oct. 20-22.
  • Introduction to Beekeeping will meet from 6-7:50 p.m. on Thursdays for eight weeks beginning Oct. 19 in the Potter-Ewing Agriculture Building, Room 400. No class will be held on Nov. 23. The course covers basic principles of beekeeping and its role in producing and maintaining the food supply. Students will learn the skills needed to be a hobbyist beekeeper. Cost is $79; instructor is Bruce R. Bird.
  • Intermediate Country and Western Dance will meet from 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays for seven weeks beginning Oct. 24 in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. The course is a continuation of the beginning dance course and will introduce intermediate turns and twirls in two-step and waltz, Night Club Two-Step, West Coast Swing, and couple side-by-side dances. Dancers may attend alone or with a partner, but a partner is suggested to do the turns and twirls. Smooth-soled shoes are recommended. Cost is $49; instructors are Mary Donnell-Brown and Travis Goosen.
  • Rags to Rugs beginner class will meet from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 25 in Fielding Technical Center Center, Room 253. Continuous strand weaving is easy to do using center-pull balls of yarn; beginners are welcome. Two-foot looms will be used to create a sample-sized project for a large doll, table accent or joined with other pieces to make a shawl or throw. Participants should bring a crochet hook, scissors and a ball winder if they have one. Yarn will be provided, and looms will be available with a $25 deposit fee that will be refunded at the end of class or used to purchase the loom. Cost is $59; instructor is DeAnna Amos of Misty Woods Products.
  • Intermediate Country Line Dance will meet from 7-9 p.m. on Thursdays for seven weeks beginning Oct. 26 in Hopkins Student Center, Room 714. Previous line dance experience or instructor’s consent is required. Dances taught are Shotgun Jenny, Blurred Lines, Next to Me, Dance Off My Blues, The “But” Dance, Eat Mo’ Grits, Cotton-Eyed Joe, and other current dances. Cost is $59; instructor is Mary Donnell-Brown.
