Student Life will sponsor a presentation by Jude Hassan, a substance abuse and motivational speaker, at 2 p.m. Sept. 25 in Thompson Conference Center in Heckart Center.
Hassan overcame a near-decade long struggle with addiction to become a trusted source of help and information in the region. Prior to Hassan’s downfall, he was an honor roll student, an up and coming athlete and the son to two educators. His father, a substance abuse counselor, educated Hassan on the perils of addiction at a young age. Unfortunately, peer pressure and the need to fit in got the best of Jude. At age 15, he began abusing marijuana. Shortly thereafter, he discovered heroin. Needless to say, Hassan lost everything.
Hassan works as an Outreach Coordinator for Bridgeway Behavioral Health, a large treatment center in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the co-founder of Suburban Junky, Inc., and the author of Suburban Junky: From Honor Roll to Heroin Addict.
