We teach you basic diagnostic imaging skills so you can graduate as a highly trained, registry-eligible medical imaging professional ready to enter the workforce, learn advance imaging technologies or transfer into a bachelor’s degree program.

State Fair Community College Radiologic Technology Program is fully accredited through JRCERT and follows the ASRT curriculum to prepare students for the ARRT national registry, however, some states may have licensing or educational requirements beyond the national registry in radiography. Is This Program Right for Me?

Common abilities needed for this program include compassion for others; critical thinking and reasoning skills; a responsible, professional attitude; interpersonal communication skills; the ability to read and comprehend written information; and a willingness to learn new technologies.

SFCC also offers advanced imaging training through online Computed Tomography (CT) courses and Mammography conferences. Second-year radiography students, technologists or people interested in expanding their knowledge base may apply. Admission to CT training requires an additional application.

Occupational Outlook

Radiologic technologists are needed in every health care setting, from large hospitals and suburban outpatient clinics to rural physicians’ offices. Starting salaries in Missouri range from $62,270- -$66,480 and increase with specialization and experience.

  • Accreditation

    radiology technician and patientState Fair Community College is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Division of Career and Adult Education, Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

    The Radiologic Technology program is also accredited with the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. Accreditation proves to the student that the academic program meets certain educational standards. In accordance with the guidelines published in the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, the Radiologic Technology program follows the Radiography curriculum published by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.

    The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) granted the SFCC radiologic technology program an 8 year accreditation status in 2022. The maximum duration that is awarded by JRCERT is 8 years.

    An interim report will be required in 2025 to JRCERT and next site visit is tentatively schedule for 2029.

    Completion of an Accredited Radiologic Technology program is required to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ certifying exam.

    Upon completion of the SFCC Radiologic Technology Program, the graduate will be able to:

    • Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, imaging techniques and positioning procedures to accurately demonstrate human anatomy on a radiograph and other imaging receptors, making appropriate modifications as patient needs dictate.
    • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in the technical performance and evaluation of examinations and procedures.
    • Utilize a variety of medical imaging, image processing, and image archiving equipment in a variety of clinical settings, demonstrating safe limits of use, recognizing equipment malfunctions and reporting them to proper authority, and possessing knowledge of quality assurance activities.
    • Utilize appropriate radiation protection techniques for patients and personnel.
    • Provide basic patient care, safety, comfort and education and anticipate and recognize emergency patient conditions in order to initiate life-saving first aid/basic support.
    • Exhibit professional and ethical behaviors, which are recognized by the standards, contained in the professional code of ethics and scope of practice as set by American Society of Radiologic Technologists and other nationally recognized professional organizations.
    • Communicate professionally and competently with patients, family members, other health care personnel, and members of the general public.
