Recap:
The State Fair Roadrunners had their mettle tested in the preseason Highway 65 Shoot-out scrimmage on Oct. 28 against Missouri Valley College’s varsity team.
"Missouri Valley has a very nice team. They played extremely hard. It was a good tune-up for getting things going here next weekend," said Head Coach Dale Ribble.
The Roadrunners held a small lead for most of the first half until the last few minutes when the Valley Vikings gained a one point lead before half-time. During the second half, the Roadrunners were down double digits, but they were able to battle back and get within two points; final score was 71 to 69.
"We were able to make some threes, get to the free-throw line, get some steal . . . I think our guys did a good job sharing the basketball. We got an open look at a three, and it rimmed out on us," said Ribble.
Ribble feels the team still has work to do before they open the season at the McDonald’s Classic against Brown Mackie at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
“We have to work on our offensive execution, shot selection, patience on the offensive end, and getting to the free-throw line more,” said Ribble. “Defense and rebounding will be two other key areas to improve.”
"We play Brown Mackie, who is very talented, and will have a good basketball team on Friday, and then we play Missouri Valley College junior varsity on Saturday. I think they will be two good tests for us. We're glad we have both games at home," said Ribble.
