Some common skills and abilities needed for this program include clerical and computer knowledge; written, oral and reading comprehension; excellent near vision; critical-thinking skills; accuracy handling information; and the ability to evaluate information to comply with required standards.
We offer a Professional Certificate in Medical Coding, which can lead directly to employment or count toward the AAS degree. Curriculum incorporates the disciplines of medicine, management, information technology, and law; as a graduate, you’ll be well trained to work in large hospital systems or private physician practices.
Occupational Outlook
Demand for skilled health information technicians is strong and continues to grow. Jobs also are available as coders, health information clerks, medical records clerks, and medical records analysts. Salaries range from $22,300 to $34,100.

Accreditation
The Health Information Technology accreditor of State Fair Community College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
