Is This Program Right for Me?
As a computer programmer, you will learn to create, modify and test the code, forms and script that allow computer applications to run. You might work from specifications drawn up by software developers or other individuals, and could assist software developers by analyzing user needs and designing software solutions. You will learn to develop and write computer programs to store, locate and retrieve specific documents, data and information.
To be successful in this program you need excellent computer and math skills; the ability to think logically and analytically; critical thinking and problem-solving skills; patience, persistence and extreme accuracy; and reading, oral comprehension and communication skills.
With the certificate you’ll be prepared for entry-level programming jobs or you can continue on to earn the AAS degree. An internship will give you the chance to apply your knowledge and skills in a work environment. Local, national and international companies—including banks, insurance companies, state agencies, and major programming firms—have hired SFCC graduates.
Occupational Outlook
The demand for trained computer programmers continues to grow. Job options include computer operator and specialist, computer maintenance technician and operations technician. Salaries range from $23,100 to $39,500.
